Lending a Helping Hand

10 Nov

Community service opportunities seem to be everywhere at W&L. Students can be found tabling by the Commons any day of the week promoting various events and charities. My sorority ran two philanthropy events this semester. We delivered buffalo wings to students on a Friday night for one event. We hosted a “pie war” with a fraternity for our other event, where students got to pay to throw pies at each other. My sorority donated the proceeds from these two events to our national philanthropy which focuses on literacy. Even outside of Greek life, W&L gives students many options for community service activities, like working with local public schools as tutors and mentors or walking dogs at the Rockbridge SPCA. Helping out the local area is a fun and productive way for me to spend some of my free time in Lexington. I’m glad that W&L does such a good job of facilitating these chances to volunteer.
