The Johnson Scholarship Competition

Tight competition!

Tight competition!

My morning classes were packed as hundreds of High School seniors arrived on campus to compete for a Johnson Scholarship. Four held their own in my 300-level Spanish course while another handful participated in a discussion the ethics of study-drugs in my Economics of Social issues class.

The Johnson Scholarship Program was established a few years ago through a generous donation (we’re talking millions) for the purposes of providing full-tuition merit-based scholarships for 10% of each incoming class. The students on campus have all already been accepted, and now they will interview with a variety of panels that will decide who receives the scholarships.

The Johnson Program also funds a variety of other things on campus like speaker’s, professorships, and opportunities for students during the summer break.

Best of luck to all competing this week!
