As someone who knew that I wanted to study languages, the variety of languages offered at W&L was a big draw for me. We offer Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, German, Chinese, and Japanese. A special partnership with our neighbors at the Virginia Military Institute allows W&L students to study Arabic next door and our Classics department also offers Greek and Latin courses.
Last weekend my Spanish class took a field trip to Washington D.C. to check out the ‘Exploring the Early Americas’ exhibit at the Library of Congress. We piled into a van with our professors early in the morning, and got to see the first-hand the manuscripts that we had studied in class. After the Library of Congress, we went to grab a bite to eat and then stopped by the Museum of the American Indian before heading back to Lexington.
Needless to say, eating burgers in the Capitol with my Professors during a field trip was certainly an “Only at W&L” moment.
